2011 MEA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM

Dear MEA Members:

The NYC Managerial Employees Association is proud to announce the 2011 Scholarship Program that is open to all MEA members in good standing.

The Scholarship Program is offered (one lifetime award to a recipient) as follows:

• Each child/dependent of a parent/guardian of an MEA member in good standing.

• For a currently employed member who is enrolled in an accredited Undergraduate or Graduate Program or enrolled in a Certificate Program which is not funded by his/her New York City agency or by DCAS.

All applicants must carefully follow the instructions and submit the required documentation as outlined. Please be sure to return your application(s) by the deadline date of July 1, 2011 in order to be considered for an award.

Scholarship award winners will be notified by the end of August 2011. Those applicants who are not awarded a scholarship may apply the following year, in accordance with the rules applicable in the new program year.

We urge all those who are eligible for each or both programs (when applicable) to apply. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the MEA office.

2011 MEA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM
For Dependent Children of any MEA members
and for active NYC managerial employee MEA members

The NYC Managerial Employees Association is proud to announce its 14th annual higher education Scholarship Awards Program for our members!

The following are MEA’s 2011 Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

1. DEPENDENT CHILDREN OF MEA MEMBERS:
(up to a $1,500 Scholarship)
1. Must be the child and dependent of a parent or guardian who is either an active NYC managerial employee and MEA member or a retired MEA member whose payment of MEA dues is up to date as of Friday, July 1, 2011.
2. Must have been accepted for full time enrollment at an accredited college or community college, university, or a graduate School that leads to an Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree or Master’s Degree.
3. Must meet the eligibility requirement of a dependent of an active or retired member of the NYC Management Benefits Fund.
4. Must be 24 years old or younger as of Friday, July 1, 2011.
5. Applicant’s child must have never received a scholarship from MEA.
6. Must obtain signed consent of parent or guardian MEA member.
7. The following items must be received by the MEA office not later than Friday, July 1, 2011.

** High School Seniors & College students (not completed one semester):
1. Properly completed scholarship application form
2. Name of school applicant expects to attend in Fall 2011 Semester**
3. Letter of reference from faculty member of your school
4. 250 word essay on your scholastic/life goals and objectives
5. High school transcript
6. Verification of SAT scores

** College students who have completed at least one semester:
1. Properly completed scholarship application form
2. Name of school applicant expects to attend in Fall 2011 Semester**
3. Letter of reference from faculty member of your school
4. 250 word essay on your scholastic/life goals and objectives
5. College transcript
6. Verification of GPA

** College Seniors & Graduate Students:
1. Properly completed scholarship application form
2. Name of school applicant expects to attend in Fall 2011 Semester**
3. Letter of reference from faculty member of your school
4. 250 word essay on your scholastic/life goals and objectives
5. Verifications of GRE’s

** Scholarship winners will be required to submit proof of Fall 2011 college or graduate school registration, before checks can be distributed.
