Two recent articles were published in the NY Post. The latter is more optimistic about managers getting raises in the near future. On December 10, 2008 the MEA sent a letter to the Mayor requesting the timely issuance of a Mayoral Executive Order authorizing across-the-board raises for all New York City Managers. We called the Mayor’s office on December 29 and were told that the letter is now on the desk of the Deputy Mayor of Operations and to expect a reply soon.
We must do more and therefore will begin a concerted public relations effort to emphasize the important job of managers and the fact that most are not at the top making high salaries and that many earn less than their subordinates and work many hours of overtime without compensation. We will continue to fight until these deserved raises are received by all our members.
We remain confident that the raises will be granted eventually, stay tuned for further developments.
