Linda Barnes is the recently appointed Executive Director of the NYC Managerial Employees Association (MEA). As the Executive Director, Ms. Barnes will work in conjunction with the President and Executive Board to provide leadership and develop strategies for the continued growth of the organization. Ms. Barnes has been a long-time resident of Brooklyn New York residing in the East New York section. Prior to her MEA appointment, Ms. Barnes was employed within the healthcare industry for more than 17 years. Her areas of expertise were focused primarily upon administrative management of clinical trials and research, outpatient ambulatory care and fiscal management. As the Assistant Administrator and Fiscal Manager of the Treatment for Life Center, located within Brookdale Hospital, Ms. Barnes played an integral role in managing an outpatient clinic, as well as fiscal monitoring of seven grant programs funded by Federal, State and City agencies. Ms. Barnes’ is not entirely new to the issues facing New York City’s public employees. For more than 12 years she functioned in varying roles within the Department of Transportation, Human Resources Administration and Health and Hospitals Corporation. Ms. Barnes firmly believes in using a professional approach of “leading by example” as a means of solving problems, advocating for others, and providing high-quality client services. She has enthusiastically embraces her new role with the MEA. Ms. Barnes holds with honors a Master’s degree in Public Affairs and Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She has received several awards over the years for demonstration of her professional skills in sound business strategies and techniques. MEA President Stephen Ferrer enthusiastically welcomes Ms. Barnes and states that: “The most important job for the Executive Director is the recruitment of new members. After forty years of service on behalf of New York City managers, we know that strength is in our numbers. MEA membership is more important than ever. Linda Barnes will be a tireless leader in our quest to encourage managers in every agency to join their colleagues in the MEA.”
