Police, Correction and Nursing Tests Set for 2018
2018 City Exam Schedule
Child-Protective, EMS, Sanitarian And Mechanic and Transit Testing
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services has released an amended version of its annual schedule of civil-service exams through June 30, 2018. Its plans call for open-competitive exams for 171 titles and promotion tests for 31 titles.
An open-competitive test for Police Officer is scheduled for spring, with the filing period from May 25 to June 30, 2018. Two one-day promotion exams for current NYPD employees are scheduled, with filing dates for the first on Aug. 5 and for the second on Feb. 10, 2018. No new exams for Firefighter are scheduled over the next year; filing was held through last month for an upcoming one.
You may register for a test during a period of three weeks or more as listed below. Some exams are scheduled more than once during the year-long period.
Some Walk-In Tests
Tests may be administered on a walk-in basis, which means you may select your test date. Information on scheduling walk-in tests is provided on the DCAS website at goo.gl/CBSP1Q at the beginning of each month.
The city’s three computerized-testing centers are located at 2 Lafayette St., 17th floor, in Manhattan, at 210 Joralemon St., fourth floor, in Brooklyn and at 118-35 Queens Blvd., 5th Floor in Queens.
For some titles, separate registration is required for each employer. For example, if you want to apply for Special Officer, you must file separate applications for DCAS and NYC Health + Hospitals jobs, or choose between them. You may be asked to pay separate application fees.
Application fees may be waived if you are a veteran or involved in some Federal programs offering benefits or job training. Each computerized job announcement will have a link to more information on waivers.
