Mourn Philip Levine, Top DOT Engineer And MEA Activist
Philip A. Levine, a former high-level city Department of Transportation official who was also active in the Managerial Employees Association, died May 8, his wife, Marie Levine, reported June 26. The cause was pancreatic cancer.
During his career with DOT, Mr. Levine served as Borough Engineer in the Manhattan Bureau of Traffic Operations, Borough Engineer for the Queens Division of Roadway Construction and Deputy Director of the NYC Engineering Audit Bureau. He was also the DOT chapter director for the MEA.
After leaving government service in 2003, he became a consultant to Urbitran, and after it was absorbed by AECOM, he worked there as a senior manager for the past decade.
Predeceased by his son, Peter, Mr. Levine is survived by his wife, who asked that contributions in his memory be sent to The Compassionate Friends, a support organization for bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. Marie Levine is the chapter leader of its Twin Fork Chapter, reachable at P.O. Box 43, East Quogue, N.Y. 11942-0043.
