Congratulations to the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) for receiving the National Safety Council’s 2025 Green Cross for Safety Excellence Award, announced at the organization’s annual awards ceremony in Denver on September 15. The National Safety Council, a 110-year-old nonprofit and the nation’s leading safety advocate, recognized DCAS for being “relentless in its pursuit of safety” through its groundbreaking Vision Zero Safe Fleet Transition Plan and implementation of advanced safety technologies across the city fleet.
DCAS earned this prestigious distinction through safety achievements, including:
- Implementation of Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) technology, which reduced speeding incidents by 64% during its pilot phase
- Installation of truck side-guards and initiatives to improve driver visual awareness through Executive Order 39
- Expansion of safety investments in truck-surround cameras, rear and forward automatic braking, backup sensors, and lane departure alerts
The awarded plan details DCAS’ safety fleet investments and integrations since 2017, showcasing the city’s commitment to protecting drivers, pedestrians, and New Yorkers through innovative technology and data-driven safety policies.
