Flag Day

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. This special day honors the American Flag as a symbol of freedom, independence, and the highest ideals of democracy. As proclaimed by NYC in 1998, Flag Day celebrates all those who have kept our flag flying high.

The New York City Flag Day Parade is the oldest Flag Day Parade in the country. The 2025 parade will kick off at Noon on Friday, June 13 from City Hall Park and follow down Broadway, ending at the grandstand in front of Fraunces Tavern at approximately 12:30pm.

NYC Department of Sanitation will be marching in the parade

Details about this year’s celebration include:

  • FREE parade and ceremony, open to the public with no tickets required
  • Fraunces Tavern Museum offers $1 admission until 5:00pm following the ceremony
  • This year commemorates the 250th anniversaries of our Nation’s armed forces formation (Army on June 14, 1775, Navy on October 13, 1775, and Marine Corps on November 10, 1775) and George Washington’s selection as Commander in Chief on June 15, 1775
  • Marchers distribute small American flags to passersby along the route
  • Parade concludes at the grandstand beneath a four-story American flag on Fraunces Tavern Museum’s façade
