Renell Grant
Labor Relations Manager
Department of Buildings
City service: 7 years
Renell graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University and went to work at NYNEX, now known as Verizon Communications, in 1995. She received her MBA from the University of Bridgeport and was promoted to Customer Service Manager. Renell left Verizon after several years for city government in 2017, when she began working for the Office of the Inspector General for the New York City Police Department at the Department of Investigation. While at OIG-NYPD, Renell had the great opportunity to contribute to several investigations and reports during her tenure and her name became synonymous with the Annual Report due to her involvement with the team over several years. The Annual Report is required by Local law 70, and highlights the systemic reviews conducted by OIG-NYPD and assesses the extent to which NYPD has executed their recommendations for reform. As of her last submission to the Annual Report in 2022, NYPD had implemented approximately 82% of the 185 recommendations issued from the 17 Reports released up to that time. Renell discovered her interest in Labor Relations during her tenure at Verizon and she was finally able to transition to her new career in 2022 when she accepted a LR Analyst position with the NYC’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Renell learned a lot in a short amount of time due to the untimely passing of her Assistant Commissioner Nancy Romero and her Executive Director accepting a position at another agency. Renell was then promoted to Manager with the Department of Buildings in October 2023. Renell is very involved in her church, St. Charles Borromeo RC Church, as a lector and Parish Council President and her community as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
