Honor. Remember. Celebrate.
Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring those who have given their lives in service to the United States military. It also marks the unofficial start of summer for many. Learn more about this history of Memorial Day here. While an estimated 45 million Americans are expected to travel, here are some events right here in NYC.
Fleet Week New York 2026 will be held from July 3-8 to coincide with the Sail4th 250 to celebrate the 250th birthday of the USA.
Memorial Day Events
Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade (Queens): Known as the largest Memorial Day parade in the nation, the parade draws thousands of participants and spectators to honor the fallen with a massive display of patriotism.
Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade: It is one of the oldest continuously run parades in the country as it marches through the historic streets of Bay Ridge.
Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument (Manhattan): For formal ceremonies, the Upper West Side landmark hosts an annual observance featuring wreath-laying and military musical tributes.
Intrepid Memorial Day Weekend Events The Intrepid has a full weekend schedule commemorating the fallen and those that serve.
Beyond the festivities, New York offers quieter spaces for reflection. Many New Yorkers travel downtown to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza or the World War II Memorial in Battery Park.
The NYC Department of Veterans’ Services offers a number of valuable resources to veterans, including financial help, legal support, and housing assistance.
MEA is honored to represent our members who are former service men and women. We thank you for your service. (Are you an MEA Veteran not listed below? Submit your info here so we can keep our list updated.)
