This National EMS Week, the MEA would like to express our sincere gratitude to all Emergency Medical Service providers across New York City for their dedication and lifesaving work. Your commitment to serving our communities, often in the most challenging circumstances, represents the highest ideals of public service.
National EMS Week offers an opportunity to recognize the essential contributions of EMTs and paramedics nationwide. This year’s theme, “We Care. For Everyone,” highlights the inclusive and compassionate nature of their work. The week is organized by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) in partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to promote nationwide recognition of EMS professionals. The NAEMT offers various resources and activities for celebrating EMS Week, visit the NAEMT EMS Week page for more information.
The New York City EMS System comprises over 70 Emergency Medical Service agencies from Volunteer, Proprietary, Hospital-Based, and Municipal sectors. Each plays an important role in providing emergency medical care under protocols established by the Regional EMS Council of NYC, with all operations overseen by the New York State Department of Health. Municipal EMS agencies include New York City Fire Department (FDNY) EMS and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Emergency Services Unit (ESU). The system also includes numerous hospital-based EMS agencies across the five boroughs. For a complete list of all NYC EMS Agencies and to learn more about the New York City EMS System, visit the Regional EMS Council of NYC page.
In celebration of EMS Week, the Empire State Building has partnered with FDNY to light the top of the building in yellow, white, and blue on May 18, 2025. This tradition recognizes the contributions of EMS professionals throughout our city and beyond.
