The MEA thanks our veterans for the dedication and sacrifice they have made for our country. In honor of National Hire a Veteran Day, we would like to highlight the NYC Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS), which “connects employers to resources that will help the service member on their staff succeed in their post-military careers.” Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, for instance, illustrates the rights and responsibilities of civilian employers and service member employees. The Veteran Employment Toolkit provides resources for employers and managers to better serve their veteran employees. Mental Health First Aid training is available to help employers address mental health crises unique to the veteran experience; register by emailing connect@veterans.nyc.gov.
In addition to employment services, DVS connects veterans to services for a wide range of issues, including legal support, VA benefits claims, mental and behavioral health, and money management.
