National Police Week

National Police Week (May 11-17) serves as a time to honor law enforcement officers across the country, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Established in 1962, this annual observance brings together law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to pay homage to fallen officers through memorial services and support programs for families of the fallen.

We’d like to send a special shoutout to our MEA NYPD chapter representative Umran Malik and MEA DEP chapter representative James Caggiano who serves on our Executive Board to help make the MEA stronger. If you are interested in running for one of the leadership positions – Chapter Director, Assistant Chapter Director, and Recording Secretary – be sure to contact the office info[@]nycmea.org.

The MEA extends our deepest gratitude to the members of the police forces in NYC.

New York Police Department (NYPD), who work tirelessly to keep New York City’s five boroughs safe. As the nation’s largest municipal police force, the NYPD continues to set the standard for urban policing, handling everything from daily neighborhood patrols to counterterrorism operations.

NYC Department Of Environmental Protection (DEP) Police Division, who protect New York City’s water supply system spanning 2,000 square miles of watershed land across nine counties. These dedicated officers patrol by foot, bicycle, all-terrain vehicle, boat and helicopter, while maintaining specialized units including a detective bureau, emergency service unit, canine unit and aviation unit.

Hospital Police Officers serving within NYC Health + Hospitals, who provide crucial security and safety across the nation’s largest public health care system. These officers maintain order and protect staff, patients, and visitors at medical facilities throughout the five boroughs while responding to emergency incidents and assisting those in need of medical attention.
