NYC Public School Film Festival (NYCPSFF)

Calling all budding filmmakers: The NYC Department of Education/Mayor’s Office of Media Entertainment Film Festival is looking for you!

Now in its 7th year, the festival celebrates the creativity and hard work of the city’s young directors and producers; it is open to all DOE middle and high school students and is free to enter. A selection of approximately 25 films will be chosen by a panel of educators and media professionals for a film screening and career development day in April 2025.

Submissions are open from now until 11:59 on March 7, 2025. Notification of film selection will go out by April 11, 2025 and will come with a “Certificate of Official Selection”.

Films can be in one of the following categories, with a run-time of 5 minutes or less: Animation; Short Feature/Narrative; Documentary; Experimental; or Public Service Announcement (P.S.A.)/Advocacy.

For more information on eligibility, submission, and technical rules for the festival, check out their page here. Check out some highlights from last year’s festival here.
