NYC Summer Internship Program

Attention all graduate and undergraduate students. The NYC Summer Internship Program (SIP), organized by the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), provides students with hands-on experience working for New York City government agencies. In 2024, over 860 interns were placed across 35 different City agencies, offering diverse learning opportunities in various government roles.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Graduate interns must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program
  • Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled in college or have graduated within one year of the program year
  • NYC residency is not required, but interns must be able to commute to their assigned office location

Internships run for a maximum of 13 weeks between May and September 2025, with competitive weekly pay rates of $577.50-$665.00 per week for Summer College Internes and $610.03-$917.97 per week for Summer Graduate Interns.

This year, over fifteen major NYC agencies are participating in SIP, including:

  • Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • New York City Police Department (NYPD)
  • Department of Finance (DOF)
  • Administration for Children’s Services (ACS)
  • NYC Council
  • Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
  • Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD)
  • NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)
  • Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)

Students apply directly to individual agencies by submitting resumes and cover letters following specific job posting instructions. Applicants are encouraged to apply to multiple positions to increase their chances of selection. Beyond work experience, SIP offers professional development opportunities, civil service employment guidance, and access to a growing alumni network.

Summer 2025 positions are filling up fast, so interested students should apply as soon as possible. Participating agencies and available positions are updated regularly. Students can also sign up for the mailing list to receive notifications about recruitment events and new opportunities.
