Congratulations! We are delighted to welcome Umran Malik to the MEA Executive Board as Acting Chapter Director for the NYPD Chapter.

Umran Malik has had a distinguished career as a civil servant, working with various city agencies, including the BOE, FDNY, DYCD, DOHMH, HRA, DHS, and NYPD. Over the past 20 years, he has focused on budgets, contracts, and procurement, building an impressive track record of expertise and leadership. As an esteemed civil servant with the City of New York, Umran now serves as the Director of Procurement and Budget at the NYPD, overseeing all functions related to budgets, procurement, and contracts within the Facilities Management Division. Before assuming his current role, Mr. Malik progressed through various departments within New York City Government, beginning as an intern for the Board of Education in 2001 working administrative needs for the Board Members. He went on to serve as a Budget Analyst at the FDNY in Fire Prevention, an Accountant in Accounts Payable at DYCD, and a Contract Manager at DOHMH, where he managed discretionary funds for children with disabilities and partnered with state agencies on a $30 million budget.  He later worked as a Senior Contract Manager at DSS, working under the Office of Refugee and Immigration Affairs on contracts for language services and training. As Deputy Director at DOE, Mr. Malik managed over $500 million in contracts and oversaw more than 100 vendors. He is also credited with spearheading the implementation of a contracts and procurement tracking system, promoting accountability and transparency throughout the lifecycle of contract actions. Mr. Malik holds a dual bachelor’s degree from the CUNY Baccalaureate Program and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Brooklyn College. Beyond his professional achievements, he is actively engaged in his community, coaching his kids’ sports teams and volunteering as an auxiliary officer.
