OTI – National Technology Day

It’s National Technology Day! Observed on January 6, this day is an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the diverse ways that technology has shaped, influenced, and enhanced our world. The effect that technology has had on our way of life is undeniable, and has changed the way we interact with our surroundings and each other.

The hardworking individuals at the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) have helped the City harness the power of technology and use it to make New York better connected, more efficient, and safer. 2024 saw some great strides made in the City’s use of technology. Highlights include:

  • The successful Big Apple Connect program—the largest municipally subsidized broadband program in the country—which provides internet access to 330,000 NYCHA residents
  • Expanding the MyCity portal, which provides easier access to City services and benefits, with the City’s first AI-powered chatbot and the Jobs NYC portal
  • Graduating 29 City employees from NYC Cyber Academy to upskill the City’s cybersecurity workforce
  • Establishing the City’s first privacy externship in partnership with Fordham Law School, which grants students the opportunity to gain exposure to the privacy concerns agencies face when delivering services to New Yorkers.
