The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on Tuesday, March 17 starting at 11:00 AM. The parade will be stretch along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and it is the world’s oldest and largest parade, featuring over 150,000 participants and 2 million spectators.

Did you know?
- the first parade, in 1762, was comprised of a band of homesick, Irish ex-patriots and Irish military members serving with the British Army stationed in the colonies in New York
- St. Patrick was historically associated with blue (“St Patrick’s blue”) and became green became the symbol of Irish identity in the late 18th century
- the tradition of marching past St. Patrick’s Cathedral has remained although its address has changed. Previously, the Parade would march past what is the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral at the corner of Mott and Prince Streets in SoHo
- Saint Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to the island and building numerous churches and monasteries
