Thank You, FDNY

In celebration of International Firefighters’ Day on May 4, MEA wants to thank the fearless individuals of the FDNY. The FDNY has worked tirelessly for over a century to help make the largest city in the nation one of the safest, running into dangerous situations in service of their fellow New Yorkers. In addition to their work battling blazes, they provide disaster relief and aid during public safety crises.

The department engages with the public through education programs on fire safety and emergency preparedness, including: youth programsfree CPR classesOpen Houses, and Block Parties to further connect with the citizens they so bravely serve.

Those interested in learning more about fire safety and prevention should be sure to check out FDNY Fire Zone. This interactive learning center providers visitors with the opportunity to try on gear, climb on a realistic fire truck, learn how to crawl through a smoke-filled hallway, and attend a presentation hosted by a firefighter featuring the Fire Simulator, which uses special effects and multimedia to help teach about fire safety and what to do in case of a fire emergency.
