Do you know a recent college graduate who receive(d) their bachelor’s degree between Spring 2023 and Spring 2025? This is a paid position – a stipend is offered to fellows accepted into the program.
THE URBAN FELLOWS PROGRAM
The future is bright as the City welcomes the next generation of civil servants in this year’s cohort of the successful Urban Fellows program, which is administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). Now in its 55th year, the program is a nine-month fellowship that connects recent college graduates with opportunities to gain hands-on experience in public service by working at various agencies across the city. This experience is supplemented by a seminar series featuring distinguished leaders from both the public and private sector.
The program has been celebrated by a bevy of City officials as being an invaluable resource for injecting new talent into City service. Small Business Services’ Commissioner Dynishal Gross says that “urban fellows increase SBS’ capacity to empower local businesses, strengthen the city’s workforce, and enhance the vibrancy and resilience of communities across all five boroughs.” Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice Director Elijah Hutchinson credits the Urban Fellows program for helping launch his career in public service, and adds that the “Urban Fellows program gives people who are in the early stages of their careers the opportunity to participate in fast-paced, dynamic, public-sector roles that are life-changing and bring more diverse and highly skilled talent to serve New Yorkers.” DCAS Commissioner Louis A Molina says, “This program exemplifies our commitment to fostering homegrown talent and ensuring that our next generation of public servants are equipped with the tools, connections, and experience they need to make a difference.” See what other officials are saying here.
Applications are now open for the 2025-2026 session and are due by 6:00 PM EST on January 13th, 2025. The program dates are expected to be September 2nd, 2025 to May 8th, 2026. The fellowship provides a stipend of $31,563 and medical insurance (excluding dental and vision).
