Medical Marijuana: What We Know, What We Need To Know!

The cannabinoids THC and CBD will be discussed, and their medicinal effects reviewed. Will present the conditions that medical cannabis is most commonly used for while reviewing some of the data that supports its use. The NY State medical cannabis program will be discussed in detail.

Dr. Diana Martins-Welch is an Attending Physician in Palliative Medicine at Northwell Health.  She completed medical school at SUNY Stony Brook University School of Medicine, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Care at Northwell Health. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Her focus is on improving the quality of life of patients with cancer, much of which is done with the aid of medicinal cannabis. Dr. Martins-Welch has a particular interest in studying the effects of early palliative care for cancer patients and medical cannabis for management of symptoms.
