Congratulations to MEA member Derrick Aiken for being appointed Assistant Commissioner at New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS).
Derrick has been with DHS for 15 years. Derrick is charged with oversight of directly operated and contracted facilities that house single pregnant women and families with minor children. This includes monitoring the health and safety of shelters, providers’ compliance with operating standards, city and state regulations, and the progress of individual families as they return to the community.
MEA asked Derrick, what is the best part of his job? Derrick informed us, the best part of the job is working with a dynamic group of dedicated professionals who all share the common goal which is serving New Yorkers with care and compassion 24 hours, 7 days a week.
