NYC MEA Executive Director Linda Barnes Retires. Alice Wong has been appointed the new Executive Director.

NYC Managerial Employees Director, Ms. Linda Barnes, retired on December 31, 2020 after twelve years of service to the Association and Executive Board. Ms. Alice Wong has been appointed the new incoming Executive Director.

MEA President Shelly Shulman thanked Linda for her dedication and her successes at recruiting new members throughout her tenure. “We grew from 1900 members in 2009 to 3300 members in 2019,” he said. “That’s a tribute to Linda’s tireless efforts at recruitment and her daily work as an advocate for members that allows us to retain our membership. Under the New York State Taylor Law, managerial employees are not entitled to collective bargaining or union representation. MEA provides advocacy for NYC managerial employees and membership enrollment is optional.

“There has not been one day when I regretted reporting to my responsibilities within the MEA,” said Ms. Barnes. “I looked forward to providing our members with professional guidance and resolving work-related concerns. I always enjoyed working with a great team of Officers and Board representatives and helping to maintain the Association’s 52-year history of representing.”

President Shulman remarked “The Hiring Committee and Board of Directors are very excited to present Ms. Alice Wong to our members as the newly appointed Executive Director for MEA. Alice was previously the Executive Director for HKA, where she focused on institutional growth, long-term sustainability, and innovative membership campaigns. In her role as Executive Director of MEA, she will lead organizational operations, with responsibility for the expansion of MEA into the future.”
